This recipe is an attempt to replicate the fried shrimp they serve in restaurants. The result is incredible! Tender shrimp, coated in a super-crispy golden crust, are served in a sweet and tangy mayonnaise dressing. This appetizer will be a real hit at your house party. Serve the shrimp on lettuce leaves, sprinkled with finely chopped green onions.


Ingredients:


Shrimps
  • 600 g small shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup premium flour
  • 0.5 cup cornstarch
  • Bibb lettuce leaves, for serving
  • Thinly sliced ​​green onions
  • Vegetable oil, for deep-frying

Dip sauce
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp + 1 tsp Asian hot sauce (such as sambal oelek)
  • 2 teaspoons of honey
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Prepare the dipping sauce:

    Combine mayonnaise, chili sauce, honey, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon water in a large bowl; set aside.
  • Step 2
  • In a heavy-bottomed saucepan or cauldron, heat about 5 cm of vegetable oil over medium heat until it registers 175°C on a deep-fry thermometer.
  • Step 3
  • Prepare the shrimp:

    Meanwhile, beat the eggs in a shallow bowl. In another shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, and 1 teaspoon each of salt and black pepper. Dredge the shrimp, a few at a time, in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Dip them in the beaten eggs, then return them to the flour mixture, turning them over to create a thick coating.
  • Step 4
  • Fry the shrimp in hot oil until golden brown, 1-2 minutes, adjusting the heat as needed to maintain the oil temperature. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate.
  • Step 5
  • Toss the shrimp with the prepared sauce. Arrange the lettuce leaves in a shallow serving bowl or on individual plates. Top with the shrimp and sprinkle with green onions.
