Use leftover hot dog buns to make these bruschettas, a simple, inexpensive appetizer for at-home parties. Duff Goldman spreads the buns with a mild herb cheese and tops them with mozzarella, tomatoes, and grilled sausage.

Ingredients:

  • 3 hot dog buns, cut in half (6 pieces)
  • Olive oil to drizzle
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 150g rounds of soft herb cheese, such as Boursin
  • 5 plum tomatoes, blanched and peeled
  • Fresh basil, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp. grated mozzarella
  • Half a small salami, cut into pieces and fried until crispy
  • 3/4 tbsp. grated parmesan
  • A pinch of red pepper flakes
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 190°C. Brush hot dog bun halves with olive oil, season with salt and pepper. Bake in the oven until golden brown.
  • Step 2
  • Spread each slice of bread with herbed cheese. Thinly slice the tomatoes and arrange 3-4 slices on each slice. Sprinkle with basil, mozzarella, salami, Parmesan, and red pepper flakes. Bake until the cheese is melted and lightly golden, about 8 minutes.
