Fried Onion Dip

Caramelized onions add a unique flavor to any dish or appetizer. They're also a great addition to a cheese dip. To soften the onions, give them a pleasant caramel color, and impart a delicious sweet flavor, sauté them in a mixture of butter and vegetable oil over low heat for a long time. Be patient, avoiding overcooking them until they reach the desired consistency. Add the caramelized onions to a sauce made with cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise, stir, and enjoy their sweet and salty flavor.


Ingredients:

  • 2 large onions
  • 4 tbsp (60 g) butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 0.5 tsp ground black pepper
  • 120 g of cream cheese at room temperature
  • 0.5 cup sour cream
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Halve the onion and then slice into 0.3 cm thick half-moons (you'll have about 3 cups of onion). Heat the butter and vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper and sauté for 10 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium-low and sauté, stirring occasionally, for another 20 minutes, until the onion is golden brown and caramelized. Let the onion cool.
  • Step 2
  • Place the cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and beat until smooth. Add the onion and mix well. Taste. Serve the dip at room temperature.
