To deliciously steam broccoli, you don't need to get out the steamer. Simply simmer the florets in a saucepan with a little water, olive oil, garlic, and red pepper flakes. The broccoli will be tender and juicy, with a wonderfully spicy flavor. Use the entire head, including the large stems, after removing the tough skin. It's a great side dish for any meal.


Ingredients:

  • 1 head of broccoli
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp. l. olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 0.5 tsp ground red pepper flakes or sesame seeds
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Trim the tough skin from the broccoli stems and cut the broccoli into beautiful long florets. In a large saucepan, combine the water, olive oil, garlic, red pepper flakes, sesame seeds, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  • Step 2
  • Add the broccoli and cover to steam. After 3 minutes, turn off the heat and let the broccoli sit for another couple of minutes. Stir and serve.
