The main ingredients of this popular salad from Melissa De Arabian, ready in just 25 minutes, are broccoli and cauliflower. They're used raw, making this dish easy to prepare.


Ingredients:

  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 slices bacon, cut into small pieces, fried until crisp
  • 1/2 head (about 1.5 cups) broccoli, divided into small florets
  • 1/2 (about 1.5 cups) small head cauliflower, divided into small florets
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tsp seafood seasoning, such as Old Bay
  • Coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Place the onions in ice water for 10 minutes to soften the pungent taste, then pat dry.
  • Step 2
  • Place the bacon, broccoli, cauliflower, and onion in a large salad bowl. In a small bowl, combine the sugar, vinegar, and Dijon mustard. Gradually whisk in the oil to emulsify. Mix together the mayonnaise and seafood seasoning. Season with salt and pepper. Pour the dressing over the vegetables and toss to combine.
