Breaded shrimp with popcorn - a detailed recipe.


Ingredients:

  • 450 g medium shrimp, remove shells and heads
  • 3 cups of ready-made popcorn
  • 0.5 tbsp. breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp (30 g) butter
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper
  • Grated zest of 1 lemon and 1 tbsp. l. lemon juice
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Place the popcorn, breadcrumbs, cornstarch, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and a couple of pinches of black pepper in a food processor and pulse until coarsely ground. Transfer to a baking sheet.

    In a medium bowl, combine flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and a couple of grinds of black pepper; set aside. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs; set aside. In a small saucepan, melt the butter with the cayenne pepper, half the lemon zest, and a pinch of salt; set aside.

  • In a large, deep frying pan or heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat 2 inches of oil until a deep-fry thermometer registers 180°C (350°F).

    Working in batches, coat each shrimp in the flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour, then dip the shrimp in the eggs, letting any excess drip off. Roll in the popcorn mixture.

    Fry the shrimp until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Remove and transfer to a serving dish using a slotted spoon.

  • Mix the mayonnaise with the remaining lemon zest and juice. Drizzle the shrimp with melted butter just before serving. Serve the breaded shrimp with the mayonnaise mixture.
