How to Make Teriyaki Beef Skewers with Rice

For these mini kebabs, you can use tougher cuts of beef, such as flank steak or sirloin steak. The meat is cut into small pieces and marinated in homemade teriyaki sauce, ensuring perfect cooking and tenderness. If desired, you can add slices of onion and bell pepper to the skewers. Serve the kebabs with boiled white rice.

Ingredients:

  • 5 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 tbsp white sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1/4 tsp grated unpeeled ginger root
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove of garlic, grated
  • 700 gr. flank steak or sirloin steak
  • Onions, for grilling
  • Sweet peppers, for grilling
  • Sticky rice for filing
  • Special equipment: 20 metal or wooden skewers
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, vegetable oil, sugar, sesame seeds, ginger, green onions and garlic.
  • Step 2
  • Cut the steak into thin strips or cubes no more than 0.5 cm thick and 1 cm wide. Marinate the meat in the soy sauce mixture for about 30 minutes.
  • Step 3
  • Thread the meat onto skewers, about 4 pieces per skewer. You can also add onion and bell pepper pieces, if using.
  • Step 4
  • Preheat a charcoal or gas grill. Grill the skewers until the meat is cooked through, 3-4 minutes. Serve with sticky rice, about 2 skewers per serving.
