It is known that coffee exists in the world at least 2,800 years old. During this time, many unusual stories and anecdotes have emerged about it. Here are a few of them:

1. If a cowboy offers you coffee, look at his socks. They should be clean. Why is that necessary? A real cowboy can make coffee in a sock. He'll pour in beans, add cold water, and brew this aromatic drink, holding the sock over the fire.

2. Olympic athletes are prohibited from consuming caffeinated beverages during the Games, and those who violate the rules are disqualified. Drinking as few as five cups of coffee is enough to incur a disqualification.

3. The biggest coffee drinkers in the world are Germans, Americans, French and Japanese.

4. In the Middle Ages, coffee was considered a drink of the infidels due to its stimulating properties. Pope Clement VII, however, after trying it, decided it wasn't such a sinful beverage after all. To make a graceful escape, the Pope permitted everyone to drink it, but only once.

5. The Prussian King Frederick the Great once caught one of his soldiers drinking coffee and punished him. He later established a special unit of coffee fighters, who sought out coffee drinkers among his soldiers and punished them.

6. Coffee is drunk differently in different countries around the world:

- Italians - with sugar;

– the Swiss and Germans – with hot chocolate;

- Mexicans - with cinnamon;

- Belgians - with regular chocolate;

- Austrians - with whipped cream;

- Egyptians - black without sugar or other additives;

- Moroccans - with pepper;

– Middle Easterners – with cardamom and spices;

- Bedouins - with ginger and cardamom;

- Ethiopians - with salt.
