Masala coffee, which can now be ordered in almost any coffee shop, is something between a regular latte and traditional Indian spicy masala teaTypically made with masala chai tea concentrate, steamed milk, and a shot of hot espresso, this drink combines the aroma of freshly brewed strong coffee and Indian spices in one cup.


Ingredients:


Masala tea
  • 6 cups of water or milk
  • 3/4 cup masala tea powder
  • Cinnamon sticks, as needed
  • Star anise, as needed

Masala latte coffee
  • 6 cups of strong brewed coffee
  • Whipped cream for serving
  • Cinnamon sticks for decoration
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • For masala tea: Pour water (or milk) and masala chai powder into a slow cooker. Set the heat to low and simmer for 5 hours. Add the cinnamon sticks and star anise and simmer for another hour.
  • Step 2
  • For masala latte coffee: Pour a little masala chai from the slow cooker into each cup of coffee. Serve with whipped cream and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
