Ingredients:


Coffee with masala spice
  • 1 cup dark roast coffee beans
  • 1 tbsp cardamom
  • 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1.5 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 tsp finely grated fresh peeled ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • A large pinch of salt
  • 4 cups of heated water
  • 1.5 cups of skim milk
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • Special equipment: a coffee machine with the ability to froth milk

Cinnamon sugar
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Mix the ingredients in a separate bowl.
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Coffee with masala spiceIf you don't have a home coffee maker, use a large French press. Add ground coffee, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, black pepper, cloves, and salt; pour in water. Let steep for 5 minutes. Press the plunger to force the coffee through the filter. If you're making coffee in a coffee maker, brew the masala chai mixture with 4 cups of water, then strain.
  • Step 2
  • While the spices are steeping, use a frother to froth the skim milk. Alternatively, if you don't have a frother, heat the skim milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat until thick and foamy, 5-6 minutes.
  • Step 3
  • Pour the spiced coffee into a medium saucepan and heat over medium heat. Add the evaporated milk. Pour the coffee into 4 glasses and top with the frothed milk. Sprinkle with cinnamon-flavored sugar and serve.
