Dip and chips is a versatile appetizer that's always a hit with everyone. Whether you're making it for a family movie night or a fun house party, the more dips, the better. With this recipe, you can make two contrasting appetizers—red and white dips—that pair equally well with corn chips.

Ingredients:


Red pepper salsa
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 1 ripe tomato, cut into quarters
  • 1/3 cup pickled picante peppers
  • A quarter of a large white onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 0.5 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/8–1/4 teaspoon hot sauce

Creamy Garlic Lime Dip
  • 1.5 cups sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • 0.5 tsp ground coriander
  • 0.5 tsp lime zest
  • 2 small cloves of garlic, finely grated
  • Blue corn tortilla chips for serving
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to broil. Place the bell peppers on a large baking sheet and broil, turning, until blackened, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let cool.
  • Step 2
  • While the peppers are cooling, prepare the creamy garlic-lime dip. In a small bowl, combine the sour cream, lime juice, cilantro, coriander, zest, garlic, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper until smooth. Stir in 1–2 tablespoons of water to thin to the desired consistency.
  • Step 3
  • Peel the peppers, remove the stems, and seeds. Transfer to a food processor or blender. Add the tomatoes, hot pepper, onion, lime juice, cumin, 0.5 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Blend until smooth. Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl and season with hot sauce, salt, and pepper. Serve with tortilla chips.
