Ingredients:

  • 1 pack (500g) of frozen puff pastry with two layers, thaw in the refrigerator overnight
  • 1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp. finely grated Gruyere cheese
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 190°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Step 2
  • Lightly roll out each piece of dough on a floured work surface into 25cm x 30cm rectangles.

    Beat an egg with 1 tablespoon of water and spread it over the surface of the dough. Sprinkle each layer evenly with 1/4 cup of Parmesan, 1/2 cup of Gruyere cheese, 1/2 teaspoon of thyme, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and a small amount of pepper.

    Then, using a rolling pin, lightly press the topping into the dough. Using a floured knife or a round pizza cutter, cut each layer into 11-12 strips. Twist each strip into a spiral and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Step 3
  • Place the baking sheet with the хворост in the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the dough has risen. Then flip the хворост over and bake for another 2 minutes, until golden brown.
