New Year's Pizza "Candy Cane"

How to Make Candy Cane Pizza
Time: 25 min.
Complexity: easily
Servings: 6 - 8

This festive appetizer, shaped like a giant Christmas candy cane, is filled with all the ingredients of a pepperoni pizza. The filling of tomato sauce, melting mozzarella, and savory pepperoni rounds is wrapped in a golden sesame crust, so the crust peeks through the slits, giving the cane a striped look. You'll need triangles of croissant dough for this one. The finishing touch is a bow of fresh basil leaves. Serve hot at a Christmas party. It looks impressive and is delicious!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tube (220 g) chilled rolled out croissant dough
  • 1/3 cup ready pizza sauce + extra for filing
  • 0.5 tbsp. grated mozzarella
  • 24 slices pepperoni
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 2 large fresh basil leaves
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 200°C.
  • Step 2
  • Unroll the croissant dough and divide it into triangles along the perforations. Cut the triangles in half lengthwise to make 16 triangles.
  • Step 3
  • Place two sheets of parchment paper together to form a 60cm (24 in) long sheet. Arrange the dough triangles on the parchment paper in a horizontal row, pointed ends facing up and flat sides slightly overlapping (the row should be as long as the parchment paper). Gently press the pieces together where they meet to seal.
  • Step 4
  • Spread pizza sauce over the widest part of the dough (about 4 cm). Sprinkle the sauce with cheese and top with a layer of pepperoni.
  • Step 5
  • Fold the pointed ends of the dough over the pepperoni, tucking them under to enclose the filling. Gently fold the top end of the row to the left to create a candy cane shape. Transfer the parchment paper and cane to an inverted baking sheet. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Step 6
  • Bake until golden brown and the cheese is melted, 8-10 minutes. Tuck basil leaves into the cane to create a bow. Serve with dipping sauce.
