This luscious, sweet-and-savory Caribbean salsa features a harmonious blend of mango, fresh habanero pepper, cilantro, and lime. Keep in mind that habanero peppers are very hot, so be sure to remove all the seeds to tone down the heat.

Ingredients:

  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1/4 cup coarsely chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and diced (about 2 1/2 cups)
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 habanero pepper, seeded and finely chopped (optional)
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • Tortilla chips for serving
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Finely chop the garlic, sprinkle with 1 1/4 teaspoons salt and mash into a coarse paste with the flat side of a large knife.
  • Step 2
  • Combine the garlic paste with cilantro, oil, mango, green onions, habanero, and lime juice. Set aside for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Season with salt and serve with tortilla chips.
