A large batch of this apple sauce can easily be made in a slow cooker in just one hour. The recipe uses juicy red plums, which add color and sweetness to the sauce.


Ingredients:

  • 5 large McIntosh apples (about 900 g)
  • 5 red plums (about 700 g)
  • 1/4 cup natural apple juice
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 tbsp (60 g) unsalted butter
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Quarter the apples and plums, leaving the peels on. Core the apples and pit the plums. Place the fruit in a 6-10 cup (1500-2500 ml) slow cooker. Add the apple juice, sugar, cinnamon sticks, and butter. Close the lid and cook on the "porridge" setting, or set the timer for 50 minutes.

    Discard the cinnamon sticks. Stir and mash the sauce with a potato masher until any chunks remain. Serve warm or at room temperature.
