The aromatic French aperitif Lillet Blanc in this festive sangria highlights the delicate flavor of star fruit. Made with champagne and vanilla syrup, this sangria is perfect for the holiday season, special occasions like bachelorette parties and birthdays, and will add a sparkle to any party.


Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 2 tbsp. aperitif Lillet Blanc
  • 1 cup of sparkling water
  • 2.5 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 450 g (about 2 medium-sized) star fruits, cut into 0.3 cm thick pieces.
  • 750 ml champagne or white sparkling wine, chilled
  • Golden granulated sugar for serving
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • In a small saucepan, bring the granulated sugar and 1/2 cup water to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Split the vanilla bean in half lengthwise, scrape out the seeds with a knife, and add the bean and seeds to the saucepan. Simmer for another minute. Let cool, then pour into a 2.8-liter pitcher.
  • Step 2
  • Add Lillet wine, sparkling water, and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to a pitcher and stir. Add the star fruit and cover the pitcher with plastic wrap. Refrigerate the sangria for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  • Step 3
  • Before serving, pour the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of lemon juice into a saucer. Place a small amount of golden granulated sugar in another saucer. Dip the rims of 8 glasses in lemon juice, then in sugar. Pour the champagne into the pitcher and stir gently. Fill each glass halfway with ice, then pour in the sangria and garnish with a star fruit garnish.
