How to Make Hot Ginger Toddy

A Hot Toddy is a warming British drink made with whiskey, honey, and lemon. Sometimes flavored with aromatic herbs, it's enjoyed before bed or in cold weather as a powerful cold remedy. Make an American-style Hot Toddy with aromatic bourbon and ginger and serve it instead of the usual mulled wine.


Ingredients:


Cocktail
  • 120 – 180 ml of premium bourbon
  • 60 grams of honey
  • 30 ml ginger syrup, see recipe below
  • 30 ml freshly squeezed lemon juice

Ginger syrup
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 cups coarsely chopped ginger with peel, about 240 g
  • 1 cup of sugar
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • In a small saucepan, heat the whiskey, honey, ginger syrup, and lemon juice until the honey dissolves and the liquid is hot, but do not boil. Pour into a large snifter or mug. Serve.
  • Step 2
  • Ginger Syrup:


    Using a vegetable peeler, peel the lemon. Place the ginger and lemon peel in a food processor and puree.
  • Step 3
  • Transfer the lemon-ginger mixture to a medium saucepan, add sugar and 2 cups of water, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, partially covered, for 15 minutes. Strain the syrup and let cool. Cover and store in the refrigerator for up to a week.
