Pizza Dipping Sauce

How to Make Pizza Dip Sauce
Time: 1 hour.
Complexity: easily
Servings: 8-10

Dipping crispy toasted baguette slices into this rich dipping sauce feels like eating a real pizza! That's because the sauce is made with ingredients from traditional pizza. A rich tomato sauce with sweet peppers, olives, Parmesan, and savory bits of pepperoni is cooked in a cast-iron skillet, then topped with thin slices of pepperoni and mozzarella and toasted in the oven until the cheese melts. Serve right in the skillet. The dip looks just like pizza. Scoop up the sauce with bread and enjoy!

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Preheat the oven to 220°C and dice 80g of pepperoni. Thinly slice the remaining 30g of sausage and set aside for garnishing the sauce.
  • Step 2
  • Heat a medium cast-iron or oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add the diced pepperoni and cook, stirring, until crispy, 4 to 5 minutes. Add the onion, bell pepper, minced garlic, oregano, 3/4 teaspoon salt, and a few grinds of black pepper. Continue cooking, stirring, until the onion is very soft and lightly browned, about 5 minutes.
  • Step 3
  • Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring, until coated and lightly browned, about 1 minute. Stir in the tomatoes and their juices. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 15 minutes. Stir in the olives and Parmesan cheese and remove from heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Step 4
  • Meanwhile, drizzle the baguette slices with olive oil and arrange them in a single layer on a clean baking sheet. Toast in the oven until crisp, 7-9 minutes. Rub the slices with a whole clove of garlic and set aside to cool.
  • Step 5
  • Preheat oven to broil. Scatter mozzarella pieces and thinly sliced pepperoni over the sauce in the skillet. Place the skillet under the broiler and broil until the cheese is melted and lightly browned, 2-3 minutes. Serve warm with garlic toast.
