Classic tomato sauce for pizza - a detailed recipe.


Ingredients:

  • 1 can (800 g) of whole peeled tomatoes in their own juice
  • 1 small white or sweet onion, finely diced and minced
  • 1 clove of garlic, peeled and crushed
  • 3-4 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • A pinch of salt
  • A pinch of ground black pepper
  • A pinch of sugar (optional)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil for frying
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Place the contents of the canned tomatoes in a bowl and mash them with a fork or your hands, leaving some chunks. Pour olive oil into a heavy-bottomed 2-quart saucepan and heat it over medium-high heat until slightly warm. Add the onion and sauté until slightly translucent. Add the garlic and sauté for about a minute, until golden.

  • Add the crushed tomatoes and stir well. Bring to a boil quickly. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then add fresh basil and oregano. If the tomatoes are too tart, you can add a little sugar. Simmer over low heat, stirring frequently, for at least 15 minutes. If not using immediately, cool and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
