Bacon Cheeseburger Bread

How to Make Bacon Cheeseburger Bread
Time: 1 hour 55 minutes
Complexity: easily
Servings: 8

Instead of making a bunch of cheeseburgers for a crowd, bake one large loaf of bread with cheeseburger toppings and cut it into slices. Your guests will be delighted with a unique take on their favorite sandwich. Instead of buns, you'll need pizza dough. Roll it out and top it with all the traditional cheeseburger toppings: ketchup, mustard, ground beef, lots of cheese, pickles, onions, and fried bacon. Roll it up and bake until the bread is golden brown and the cheese inside is deliciously melty. Don't forget to serve the special sauce with the bread!

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 200°C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Step 2
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, stirring to break it into fine crumbs, until cooked through, 8-10 minutes. Meanwhile, cut half the cheese into pieces, reserving the other half as slices. Set aside.
  • Step 3
  • Using a slotted spoon, transfer the beef from the skillet to a large bowl, reserving all the fat and liquid in the skillet. Let the beef cool completely in the bowl, then stir in the sliced cheese.
  • Step 4
  • On a lightly floured work surface, roll the dough into a 50 x 35 cm rectangle. Spread the meat and cheese mixture evenly over one half of the dough along the short side, leaving a 2 cm border. Spread 2 tablespoons of ketchup evenly over the meat and exposed dough; repeat with all of the mustard, then add the red onion. Arrange the remaining cheese slices evenly over the non-meat half of the dough, leaving a 2 cm border. Arrange the bacon pieces and 24 pickles directly on the beef mixture.
  • Step 5
  • Starting with the meat side down, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the open ends together to seal the filling and tuck them under the log. Place the log, seam-side down, on the prepared baking sheet, brush the surface with water, and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake, rotating the baking sheet halfway through, until the bread is golden brown, about 40 minutes.
  • Step 6
  • While the bread is baking, combine the mayonnaise, onion flakes, sugar, a pinch each of salt and black pepper, the remaining 3 tablespoons of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of finely chopped pickles, and 1 teaspoon of brine in a small bowl. Taste and adjust the salt if needed. Let the bread cool for 10 minutes. Cut into 8 pieces and serve warm with the special sauce.

    Note

To make the dough easier to work with, place it in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes before rolling it out.
