Shrimp cocktail is a great addition to any party. This easy-to-make and delicious appetizer has been popular for decades. Shrimp are peeled, leaving only the tails, boiled, and served with sauces. The shrimp should be cold, as this will make their flesh more tender and appetizing. Prepare a spicy ginger dipping sauce for the shrimp and serve beautifully on individual plates with a bowl of sauce or in elegant glasses.


Ingredients:


Cocktail sauce
  • 1 cup chili sauce
  • 1/3 cup hot mango chutney
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 tbsp. grated peeled ginger
  • Juice of 1 lime

Shrimps
  • 2 limes
  • 1 cup chopped peeled ginger
  • 1 bunch cilantro, stems only
  • 2 tsp coriander seeds
  • 2 teaspoons fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 kg large shrimp, peeled and deveined (do not remove tails)
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Prepare the cocktail sauce: In a small bowl, combine the chili sauce, chutney, cilantro, ginger, and lime juice. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Step 2
  • Meanwhile, boil the shrimp: Peel the lime zest with a vegetable peeler and place it in a saucepan. Juice the lime and add the squeezed limes. Add the ginger, cilantro stems, coriander, fennel, cumin, and pepper, and pour in 2 liters of cold water. Cover and bring to a boil; simmer for 15 minutes. Add the shrimp, cover, and remove from the heat. Let the shrimp sit in the saucepan for 6-7 minutes, until cooked through.

  • Drain the shrimp and transfer them to a bowl of ice; chill. Pat the shrimp dry. Serve with cocktail sauce.
