Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Cut a thin slice from the bottom of the watermelon (rind only) so it can stand upright. Use a sharp knife to cut a circle from the top, creating a "lid," like you would with a Halloween pumpkin.
  • Step 2
  • For cooking with a blenderPlace the watermelon in the sink (to avoid messing up the kitchen). Remove the lid and plunge the blender into the pulp. Pressing lightly, move the blender in a circular motion, pureeing the center. As you puree, move the blender toward the edges of the watermelon to puree almost all of the pulp, leaving a thin layer at the rind. Pour the juice and pulp out of the watermelon; you should have 6-7 tbsp.
  • Step 3
  • For cooking with a drillAttach the mixer beater to the drill bit and tighten the chuck. Place the watermelon in the sink to avoid messing up the kitchen, and insert the beater into the pulp. Applying gentle pressure, move the drill in a circular motion, pureeing the center. As you puree, move the beater toward the edges of the watermelon to puree almost all of the pulp, leaving a thin layer at the rind. Juice the watermelon and strain, removing any large pieces and seeds; you should have 6-7 cups of juice.
  • Step 4
  • Insert the spigot into the empty watermelon, following the packaging directions. Pour the juice, wine, and vodka into the watermelon, and cover with the lid. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to ensure the watermelon and punch are chilled.
