A touch of homemade caramel with a hint of bourbon takes this root beer cocktail to a whole new level. Store any leftover caramel in the refrigerator in a tightly sealed container. You can also use it as a dipping sauce for apples or pretzels, or drizzle it over your favorite ice cream.


Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp bourbon
  • 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • Caramel sauce, for topping
Substituting ingredients
1 glass (st.) - 250 ml.
3/4 cup (st.) - 180 ml.
2/3 cup (st.) - 160 ml.
1/2 cup (st.) - 125 ml.
1/3 cup (st.) - 80 ml.
1/4 cup (st.) - 60 ml.
1 tablespoon (tbsp) - 15 ml.
1 teaspoon (tsp) - 5 ml.
1/5 teaspoon (tsp) - 1 ml.

Preparation:

    Step 1
  • Combine 1 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons lemon juice in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Continue cooking, swirling the pan but not stirring, until golden brown. Remove from heat and thoroughly whisk in 3/4 cup heavy cream and 2 tablespoons bourbon. Return to heat and stir until smooth; add 2 tablespoons butter.
  • Step 2
  • Place 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream in each glass and top with root beer; drizzle with caramel sauce.
